OR Post -- ca. 1978 - still going

geORge brett, post master

The OR Post is a special part of my life. It is still going on. I cut my last stamp sometime in 1994, but have plans for cutting some more someday soon. The stamps are carved from white vinyl technical erasers. My favORite has been Mars Stadtler Grand erasers, but lately they have been embossing some kind of logo onto the plastic. Yuck.

I'll be adding quite a few images and other pages here. But, I thought that I'd begin with a couple images that I have on hand. Chuck Welch AKA CrackerJack Kid can be found on the Web, Lowry Thompson was the first two color stamp I did. At the moment I can't recall Pat's last name, but he did Cow Town Art -- real cool color xerox's.

I've written to a couple folks about where the OR came from. Simply put, while doing my graduate work at Unv Ga. in late 1970's I got involved with mail art. One day I received a cardboard card with library labels on one side and the following on the other: Q: Do you know there is an OR in geORge? A: No, hum a few bars and I'll fake it. OR something like that. At that time Don Milliken and couple other folks at Unv Ma Amherst had started up the ORgroup as an alternative to art they made ORt. I had stamps made for my new nom de etampe: geORge in geORgia. Soon after the OR Post began

Around 1980 I created an edition of 2 of the A Stamp Scrapbook. It includes many of commemORative stamps issued by the OR Post.
