The first two were done during a trip to Jerusalem.
I was attending a folk dance concert at the Jerusalem YWCA. During intermission it was raining. I stood in the covered walkway looking at this palm tree. All of a sudden one, two, or four bolts of lightning ran parallel to the ground. I did a quick pencil sketch. But, on the plane coming home I felt compelled to paint this. This image is scanned from a color photo copy of the original water color.
This image is one of the entrances to the Church of the Holy Seplechure. The cross is one of many that get left by Christian pilgrims who have walked the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross. This one was about 6 - 7 feet tall.
During October I went to visit my daughter, Sarah Scott at her school the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, CO. It's between Glenwood Springs and Aspen. Sarah Scott collaborated with me on designing a project that we refer to as the fire project. Later I presented it to the school and their folks re-wrote it as "Firewatch." It's about how school kids could be helpful in times after natural disasters to collect scientific information and historical materials in order to publish them on the Internet. With their permission I'll post it in a while.
