Overblick Over State of the Art Inom Virtuella Bibliotek

The concept of the Virtual Library is one that has many different meanings that vary from discipline to discipline and person to person. I would like to share some ideas here that I believe are indications of the direction we are taking to create an information environment that could lead to the realization of a Virtual Library

Before we look to the future let me share with you the comments of Patricia Batten from 10 years ago. I believe that we have come a long way with the technology. But, the process of publishing still have a long way to go.

The Virtual Library should provide Information Resources:

• Where you are.

• When you want it.

• How you need it.

• ---- at your finger tips

Let's look at underlyng technologies to see how we are moving to a Virtual Library.

• The Pathway

• The Hardware

• The Software

• A model to put it all together
